Little Baddow 2nd v Woodham Mortimer Cricket Club FIRST XI on Sat 16 May 2015 at 1.00pm
Woodham Mortimer Cricket Club Won by 129 runs

Match report Game three of the new season and the impressive 100% start was continued with a comprehensive 129 run win over Little Baddow. Asked to bat on what looked a typically true Baddow wicket, the 1's set to work on replicating last years big score on the same ground.

Rod Brazier and Josh Brady put on their first 50 partnership of the season in just 10 overs, as the visitors started well, though Josh fell just after this milestone, caught for 26, when trying to repeat the six hitting of the previous ball.

Momentum was nevertheless maintained, as Brazier and new batsman Ian Ball ensured that the 5 an over run rate was continued. The pair took the score past the 100 mark until Ball was dismissed for 15, 116-2 at the halfway mark drinks interval.

The partnerships kept been developed, with the third wicket partnership of Brazier and Dame Nelly the most fruitful of the day. In the process Brazier passed 50 for the first time this season, and just when he looked set to emulate the three figure score at the same venue two seasons in a row, he fell just two runs shy of what would have been an excellent 100. Nevertheless, a solid platform laid, 194-3 with 10 overs still to bat.

Roger Marshall joined Nelly to add further impetus, running ragged an already weary fielding side. The pair put on 50 in 7 overs as the visitors closed in on 250. Nelly fell just short of a personal milestone, departing for 44, but further late boundary hitting (including the biggest six of the day from Connor Hayman) saw a further 26 added in the final three overs - WMCC finishing the innings at a rather neat 6 runs an over - 270-6 at the close.

The hosts were soon to find that the challenge of facing this seasons 1's attack is a difficult one. With Hayman roaring in, generating bounce and swing, both openers were soon back in the pavilion as early inroads were made. There was some respite for the home side as Harris and Bowles slowly built a partnership, but the pressure became too much as a slower ball from Tom Payne deceived Harris, a key wicket to pick up relatively early on. Wickets slowly began to tumble, a run out, a further wicket for Payne and then 3 in short succession from Craig Marshall reduced Little Baddow to 70 odd for 9. A defiant last wicket stand between Bucknall and Parker, the latter batting down the order due to an earlier injury, took the score past 100, (the first time that the 1's have conceded three figures so far this season). Finally, the returning Hayman claimed the wicket of Parker who after evading fielders throughout his brisk 30, clipped one to a grateful Brazier to claim the catch and maximum points.

An excellent victory by a significant margin, which, without that last wicket partnership could have been a greater one. Nevertheless, maximum points and top of the table. Next week, a top of the table battle with old friends Old Chelmsfordians. With both sides boasting a 100% record, something has to give.

Roll on next Saturday!
