Match report As starts to a league campaign go, the 1's have had a tough one. Following the opening day defeat to Witham, this shortened, trunicated indoor league season continued with the challenge of Champions Three Fields.

It must be said the the team equipped themselves well throughout, and had their opponents on the back foot early on, with an early succcess from Chairman Mitchell. Despite the retirement of the consistent Prudence, further wickets fell, with Hudson and Taylor dismissed, the latter by a contender for catch of the season from Mark Beames, deomstrating excellent juggling skills on the back wall.

Smith and Merrion recovered proceedings, Smith the next to retire. He did not have long to wait in the hutch and recover his breath as Mitchell snared the returning Prudence first ball. Smith and Merrion were reunited to bolster the score to 135 though both were run out with 2 balls off the innings remaining.

The reply started in excellent fashion as Ball and Beames put on an opening stand of 70 at a rate of 10-runs-an-over. Beames was eventually caught and bowled trying to up the rate and Cook followed soon after, lured into trying to hit a looping delivery from Taylor and skied to Prudence.

Ball retired with a customary 25, Manoj Tripathi fell without score. Whilst Wright, Mitchell and Eddie Extra tried to take the side to victory, tight bowling ensure that efforts were in vain.

The reply fell 33 runs short - but as with the previous match with Witham, another good display from the team against top teams - certainly promising signs for the remainder of the season - all five games between now and March!
